Knowledge is power, right? Then I'm feeling just chockful of power, having returned from a fall down one of my favorite cybernetic rabbit holes, where all kinds of intriguing information abounds. Who knew there was such a thing as Canadian pulp fiction? Who knew that an octupus could make a chic hat, or that a sci-fi car right out of the movies has already been manufactured? For that matter, who knew there could be so many amusing euphemisms for masturbation?
I don't know about you, but when I'm blog-trolling, what I enjoy most is the tacitly voyeuristic thrill of falling into someone else's world -- and I love the buzz of discovery that comes from a total stranger's opening up surprising portals to even more unfamiliar (or delightfully familiar) turf, saying hey, if you like my stuff, check out this stuff I like. In other words, it's the hyperlinks, stupid. Though nothing keeps me coming back more frequently than good writing, period, hyperlinks are the enticing candy of a good blog. Which is why I heart Bibi.
Bibi's Box is all about the links (and all of the links in this post come from her blog). But it's also about her sensibility. This "curious girl blogging to share and enjoy" casts a wide, stunningly diverse net. She ferrets out treasure troves of... well, stuff -- a typical day's posting will put caches of rare illustration, back to back with say, a list of every link you needed for Talk Like A Pirate Day. She specializes in imagery -- cool visual art, design, photography, obscure cinema memorabilia, like today's staggeringly well-researched Frankenstein post (scroll down). But she's just as intriguingly eclectic when it comes to the written page. Witness the range of a typical week, from today's Hundred Greatest Theorems link, to last Tuesday's post on everybody's favorite words.
So if you haven't already spent hours of procrastination time in the realm of Bibi, have at it now. I'm going to investigate the site she's turned me onto that will enable me to download a favorite Bach cantata as a ringtone...
Thanks so much for the lovely words Billy. :)
When Movable Type let me post something again I will post about it. Now I'm having a problem with them.
You have a great blog. I have to check the old posts, since the subject is very interesting. But I signed on my reader to make the things easy.
Thanks again for the links and the very kind words. It's a pleasure to know that more people appreciate my blog.
See you
