That's a wonderful anecdote and, as you mentioned, has that very Cohen-esque sense of dichotomy. Coincidentally, I was going over Book of Longing last night and The Faith was one of the poems I read. I agree with what you say about the greats. (Lately, I've been on a Paul Simon thing.) As much as I am struck by an individual work, what drops my jaw is to see the body of work an artist has produced, to see how certain themes have developed over time, and to recognize how he/she/they have sustained a high level of craftsmanship. Leonard Cohen is a perfect example of that.

Thank you, Bill. Agreed! It's amazing enough to HAVE a vision, but truly a jaw-drop to sustain it over decades and decades of great work...
